Farmers Market announcement!!

I am happy to announce that Millwood Impact is partnering with Growing Neighbors to have a booth at the Millwood Farmers Market! I will be running the booth every week and I plan to bring my two daughters along with me when it works out! Stop by and say hello when you get a chance. I see this as a win-win situation for Millwood Impact and Growing Neighbors.

If you aren’t familiar, Growing Neighbors is a nonprofit designed to care for nature by growing: Community partnerships, Mentoring relationships, Educational opportunities, Access to local food, Environmental sustainability, Healthy Lifestyle habits and Love for one another.

Growing Neighbors does some incredible things in the community, such as helping community members start gardens, selling affordable food from those gardens at farmers markets, community composting and helping with access to food. Millwood Impact has already been partnering with Growing Neighbors for some time now in the form of the little free pantries you see around Millwood (one by Millwood Presbyterian and one by Zion Lutheran).

Our mission at Millwood Impact overlaps quite a bit with growing neighbors and we are doing everything we can to run with this new opportunity. I envision having a garden plot at the Millwood Community garden, AKA the Pumpkin patch, to grow food to share, which we plan to promote at the farmers market. The hope is that we could use this opportunity to get to know more neighbors and provide a regular space for kids and families to get to know Millwood Impact while also promoting food security. Currently, we distribute meals every other Thursday in a partnership with Women and Children’s free Restaurant, and we have plenty of room to grow that program. As I mentioned before, we help keep the little free pantry at Millwood Presbyterian well-stocked, so we plan to promote the free pantries as well.

I also want to take this opportunity to promote the Millwood farmers market Open house and Garden party. The event will be taking place this Wednesday, April 20th at the Pumpkin Patch from 3 pm - 6 pm. Come out and learn what we have in planned for the Millwood farmers market!

If you would like to join us at our booth, help us get started at the community garden, provide funds to start the project, please contact me, Jeremy, at jeremy@millwoodimpact.org. Also, come visit us at the Millwood Farmers Market all summer!
