our programs
Millwood Impact serves 3rd-5th graders from Orchard Center Elementary & Ness Elementary through our program called STAR Club.
Our goal is to have 1-2 adult mentors for every four students in the program.
We believe everyone should have access to healthy foods. That’s why we have many local businesses have ‘snack bins’ to collect snacks for West Valley Classrooms for kids who get hungry while in class, & we partner with Women and Children Free Restaurant that supply scratch-made meals for families in need. Sign up below to receive free MEAL DISTRIBUTION every first and third Thursday!
AGES: 3rd-5th graders from Orchard Center Elementary & Ness Elementary.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 3:30-5:30pm when school is in session.
DETAILS:
STAR Club is an after-school program designed to invest in the relationships of 3rd-5th grade students from Orchard Center & Ness Elementary Schools. Trained adult mentors come alongside students twice a week and holistically care for them, which leads to also caring for their entire family.
The 3rd-5th grade students are matched with trained adult mentors who are there to care for the students and help the students become secure in themselves. The students involved in this program rotate through life skill stations like cooking, sewing, crafts, art, & ecology. Studies show that five or more adult mentors involved in a student's life outside their parents gives them a four times higher chance of avoiding at-risk behavior. That's what we are trying to accomplish here at STAR Club. Our goal is to holistically care for these students and their families.
Studies show that five or more connected adults outside of the students’ parents, gives them a four times higher chance of avoiding at-risk behavior.
Our goal is to have 1-2 adult mentors for every four students in the program.
Those mentors’ goal is to “be with” the students and care for them not because they achieved anything, but just because they are. The hope is that they follow these students up as they move from one grade to the next.
our
goals
“The kids that I have had involved in STAR Club LOVE going and have a lot of fun. They really like the attention they get and the activities that they get to do there, including life skills like sewing and cooking.“
